R.I.P Senator Edward M. Kennedy

tedkennedy

Senator Edward M. Kennedy lost his battle with brain cancer tonight.

The man known as the “liberal lion of the Senate” had fought a more than year-long battle with brain cancer, and according to his son had lived longer with the disease than his doctors expected him to.

“We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,” the Kennedy family said in a statement. “He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it.”

Kennedy was a liberal fighter in the old mold. The plethora of legislation he helped pass made life better for children, for the poor, for African-Americans, for immigrants, for workers. He didn’t just give lip service to the rights of workers, he stood in their corner. He fought for access to health care and for quality education. And he opposed the likes of Robert Bork and others who wanted to trash the gains American women, workers and minorities had made over the years.

He will be sorely missed.

A Good Day For Tech Geeks

#1 Nokia unleashes their very first notebook, the Nokia Booklet 3G. The Nokia Booklet 3G comes with an Intel Atom processor, plus a 10 inch HD-ready LCD display. Other specifications include integrated A-GPS, which will come with the Ovi Maps software, HDMI out, and a 12 hour battery, which sounds pretty impressive. As the name would suggest the Nokia Booklet 3G will come with built in 3G/HSPA connectivity, plus WiFi which will provide high speed Internet access on the go. If you ask me I think this laptop is cleeeeean.

#2 — The Apple store disappeared briefly this morning, only to come back and bring us…Mac OS X 10.6, or Snow Leopard. The price is $29.00 if you’re upgrading from 10.5, and $9.95 through the Up-to-Date program. The list of improvements is a long one. True 64-bit support, faster operation (especially when it comes to shutting down, waking up, and Time Machine backup), a completely rewritten, faster Finder, new look and several new features for Exposé and Stacks, QuickTime X, support for Microsoft Exchange, Safari 4, and an improved iChat are just some of the highlights. For a full list, check Apple’s official site.

Snoop Dogg on Who Wants to be a Millionaire is just great television. I love how Snoop refuses to give up his G regardless of the place, time, or audience.

12 Most Annoying Facebookers [CNN Edition]

facebook

This is probably one of CNN’s greatest posts.

Facebook, for better or worse, is like being at a big party with all your friends, family, acquaintances and co-workers.

There are lots of fun, interesting people you’re happy to talk to when they stroll up. Then there are the other people, the ones who make you cringe when you see them coming. This article is about those people.

Sure, Facebook can be a great tool for keeping up with folks who are important to you. Take the status update, the 160-character message that users post in response to the question, “What’s on your mind?” An artful, witty or newsy status update is a pleasure — a real-time, tiny window into a friend’s life.

But far more posts read like navel-gazing diary entries, or worse, spam. A recent study categorized 40 percent of Twitter tweets as “pointless babble,” and it wouldn’t be surprising if updates on Facebook, still a fast-growing social network, break down in a similar way.

Combine dull status updates with shameless self-promoters, “friend-padders” and that friend of a friend who sends you quizzes every day, and Facebook becomes a daily reminder of why some people can get on your nerves.

Here are 12 of the most annoying types of Facebook users:
